Note: Jiang Style Complete System Pa Kua Chang is not to be confused with the Jiang Style Pa Kua Chang developed by Jiang Rong-Qiao (who was one of Jiang Hao-Quan's Pa Kua Chang teachers at the Nanjing Central Martial Arts Academy).
How Jiang Style Complete System Pa Kua Chang developed
Jiang Style Complete System Pa Kua Chang (Jiang Shi Ch'uan Shi Ba Gua Zhang) was developed from enhancements that Jiang Hao-Quan made to the awesome fighting system of Ch'uan Shi Pa Kua Chang (Quan Shi Ba Gua Zhang). The enhancements that he added are from his fighting experiences and over 85 years of martial arts study, practice, training and knowledge. The Ch'uan Shi Pa Kua Chang, that Jiang learned at the Nanjing Central Martial Arts Academy (Nanjing Chung Yang Kuo Shu Kuan), will continue to live on within the body of his Jiang Shi Ch'uan Shi Pa Kua Chang.
Jiang Shi Ch'uan Shi Pa Kua Chang incorporates traditional Pa Kua Chang (the Lao Pa Chang that was taught at the Nanjing Central Martial Arts Academy), with elements of Hsing-I Ch'uan, Pao Ting Shuai Chiao, Chin Na, Dim Mak (Dian Xue) and Tui Fa. This is an all-combat-skill system that though not obvious, is very lethal in nature and very devastating at the least. There is much that is hidden within the movements of the Eight Palms of this system, and the range of techniques are overwhelmingly effective at all three fighting ranges (close, medium and long). This system involves striking, kicking, throwing, grabbing, holding and Dim-Mak (a basic hidden element of Tai Chi Ch'uan, and major hidden element of Pa Kua Chang). The application of the techniques can be quite vicious and brutal on an attacker, and are intended to completely eliminate an attacker within seconds, to free you up for attending to multiple simultaneous attackers. Jiang Shi Ch'uan Shi Pa Kua Chang's form is completely symmetrical (all movements of each of the eight palms are learned, practiced and performed going both to the left side and right side of your body). The total symmetry of this system is something rarely found in other systems. The movements of Jiang Style Complete System Pa Kua Chang require coordinated use of all parts of the body: fingers, palms, wrists, elbows, arms, shoulders, head, torso, hips, legs, knees, and feet. All the movements are characterized by light and agile footwork, sophisticated kicking, explosive and unpredictable striking (open hand strikes, elbow strikes, shoulder strikes, knee strikes) and throwing techniques, and joint locking and breaking techniques, all woven together by the ever-spiraling arms and spinning body.
The Eight Diagrams and the Animal Form associated with each in Jiang Style Complete System Ba Gua Zhang:
1.) Yi Gua -- Eagle (Ying)*
2.) Er Gua -- Tiger (Lao Hu)
3.) San Gua -- Dragon (Long)
4.) Si Gua -- Horse (Ma)
5.) Wu Gua -- Monkey (Hou Zi)
6.) Liu Gua -- Ox (Niu)
7.) Qi Gua -- Lion (Shi Zi)
8.) Ba Gua --Bear (Xiong)
* Yi Gua -- Eagle (Ying) was formerly Rat (Lao Shu). Jiang Hao-Quan has modified it and re-named it Eagle (Ying). Ba Gua Zhang is a living and dynamic martial art and Jiang Hao-Quan modifies and changes elements and or movements to make his Ba Gua Zhang even more effective and devastating when he sees a need and feels that he can make his Ba Gua Zhang even more relevant and useful.
